Colorado Springs Gazette: Power of technology on display in Monday tour stop in Colorado Springs

Innovators in the Colorado Springs area will soon have the opportunity Monday to see a handful of local companies from various industries discuss how they use technology to their advantage.

Monday is the first day of the Colorado Technology Association’s Tech Tour, designed to build relationships among companies across the state. The group will include representatives from the association as well as various sponsor organizations throughout Colorado.

The tour’s stop in Colorado Springs will feature a Tech Roundup discussion, open to the public, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday at Ivywild School.

“The theme of the Tech Tour is storytelling, so they want to hear the stories of what’s going on in communities,” said Tammy Fields, senior vice president of economic development for the Colorado Springs Business Alliance, a sponsor of the tour. “It’s our opportunity to showcase ourselves to other folks around the state, because there are a lot of cool things going on in Colorado Springs.”

More than 50 representatives from dozens of companies have signed up for the roundup event, which organizers hope will attract people across Park, Teller and El Paso counties.

The tour will also be traveling to Frisco, Vail, Grand Junction, Fort Collins and Longmont before it wraps up Aug. 5.

“This is our way to get on the road and showcase all of the different technology work that’s happening, not only where we’re based in the greater Denver area, but throughout all the areas of the state,” said Amy Regnier, director of marketing and events for the Colorado Technology Association.

Other tour excursions in Colorado Springs will include invitation-only visits to the Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation and Olympic Training Center, where select attendees will get a firsthand look at the technology used to train the country’s best athletes.

“The Tech Tour is really trying to understand what tech assets Colorado Springs has and how we those can leverage those assets from a state perspective,” said Ingrid Richter, executive director of Catalyst Campus.
